On-device AI
Note: this part of the app comes with a licence. The free edition covers injections.
On Android phones that have Gemini Nano, ETS can use it to read, sort and put into words what you give it. It runs on the phone, nothing you log is sent anywhere, and it never gives advice.
Everything in the app works without it. On-device AI only saves you typing.
Which phones
Gemini Nano needs a supported Android phone, such as a Pixel 9 or newer, with an up-to-date AICore (the Google service that runs it). It doesn't run on phones with an unlocked bootloader. It isn't available in the iPhone web app.
Turning it on or off
Go to Setup → App settings → On-device AI and use the Use on-device AI (Gemini Nano) switch. The line under it says whether it's ready:
- Ready: it's working on this phone.
- This phone can run it: tap Download the model first. Wi-Fi is best.
- Not available on this phone: this phone doesn't support Gemini Nano.
Turn the switch off at any time and the app goes back to working the normal way.
What it does
When it's ready, you'll see boxes and buttons marked On-device AI in these places:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Read a blood test report from any lab, a scanned PDF or a photo of a printed report | Import lab report on the Labs tab |
| Log a dose in your own words | Log dose |
| Log a workout in your own words, or add exercises by saying what you did | Training → Workout |
| Read a vial or box label from a photo | Adding a compound or stock |
| Suggest which muscles an exercise works | Training → Setup → Exercises, then Suggest with on-device AI |
| Describe your week in words | Health → Weekly, then Describe my week |
| Answer questions about your log | Search and the Assistant |
| Turn a pasted training programme into templates | Training → Templates, then Paste a programme |
| Suggest the pose of imported progress photos | Import from your photos on Health → Body (more) |
| Set up a catch-up workout from a sentence, like "45 minutes, dumbbells only" | Change on the catch-up workout |
It only works with your own data. It reads what you give it, sorts it, or words your own numbers. The app itself still does the lookups and the sums, and builds the catch-up workout.
Nothing is saved without you
It never saves anything by itself. Whatever it fills in is shown for you to check first, and it's only saved when you tap to save it. It can misread things, so check every value against the report, label or what you said.
It never gives advice
It doesn't give advice, recommendations, warnings or medical opinions. When it looks at progress photos, it doesn't describe or rate your body. Its descriptions of your week are a description, not advice. For questions about your health, ask your doctor.
Privacy
Gemini Nano runs entirely on your phone. What you log, type or photograph for it isn't sent to us or to Google. Google's AICore may collect anonymous usage metrics about the AI service itself. See the privacy policy for more.
If something goes wrong
- Keep ETS open on screen while it works. It stops if the app goes into the background.
- If it says it's busy or has reached its limit, try again a little later, or fill it in by hand.
- If it won't handle something, fill it in by hand.
